Illustration Techniques Demo

Some of you may remember this sketch from the early days of this blog. I used it for the basis of my first day demo in my Illustration Techniques class, to show the pick-out method that was particularly popular in the 60's and 70's. It was done over the course of about 2 1/2 hours.

Hey guys, I'm obviously a bit thick. I did a quick search for this 'pick-out method' on Google but it came up with nothing relevant. Can you fill me in on the method at all?

Cheers.
Scott.

Scott, Sorry for the delay in responding, I addressed your question in today's post

hope that helps. Many illustrators used this as a finished technique, particularly in the 50's and 60's. Guys like Frazetta and J. Jones, but even more so Bernie Fuchs
